Couples

Deepen your connection

Working with each other in a couples yoga therapy session, you will explore mindful movement, breath-work, and conscious communication. You will create deeper connection and intimacy with your partner.

What is couples yoga therapy?

Couples yoga therapy

Is when 2 people in a relationship want to use a body-based approach to enriching or improving that relationship. Unlike talk therapy which relies on conversation to gain perspective, a somatic approach connects the mind and body. Allowing you to see your relationship from a new perspective, and gain new insights.

A relationship is based on the coming together of 2 people, to form an “us”.  For a relationship to be strong it needs to be fed and nurtured. You can feed the relationship with

  • Understanding
  •  Love
  • Communication

A relationship will struggle to flourish if you deprive it of love and understanding. If you communicate poorly or not at all or if you feed your relationship with

  • Criticism
  • Contempt
  • Defensiveness
  • Distance

What do my online couples yoga therapy sessions look like?

Using an embodied approach, you and your partner will explore connection, communication, and intimacy through mindful movement, breath, and dialogue. I facilitate the session but together we co-create the tone and direction.

I start the session by checking in with you both. What do you want to get from the session? What is going on for you both right now?  Then we start with movement, breath work, and poses. The poses are simple couple poses that can be done by anyone no matter your fitness or flexibility. The poses are designed for you to be able to stay a while and connect deeply with your body but also be with your partner in this embodied state. In a pose you may synchronize breath, assist each other, or link your bodies to create a single pose. This needs cooperation, and lets you rely on each other, which fosters communication and builds trust. At the end of the session, I will guide you through an integration. You can reflect on what came up and how that relates to your relationship. Finally, we develop an action step that you can take with you.

You are having trouble communicating.

Communication is all about sharing information and feelings. During a session, I coach you in to an embodied experience, you connect deeply with your body and with each other. Your relationship feels stuck.

Sometimes there’s no other way to describe it. You feel stuck. And it’s hard to know what’s holding you back. Yoga therapy can help you reconcile past events and traumas and allow you to move forward.

You’ve tried couples therapy before or are in couples therapy but want a fresh approach.

An embodied approach gives you a new lens through which you can examine the same problems and issues. And allow for a shift in perspective and ultimately foster change.
